Berkeley Symphony's 2010-11 season with Music Director Joana Carneiro continues the orchestra's mission of presenting the cutting edge of the classical music tradition. Featured are commissioned works by Enrico Chapela and Du Yun, a return appearance by composer John Adams, performances of lesser-known works by Manuel de Falla, Peter Lieberson and James MacMillan, as well as favorite repertoire by Beethoven, Messiaen, Shostakovich, and Stravinsky. The Annual Spring Gala will be held Friday, April 30, 2010 at the Claremont Resort and Spa in Berkeley. Tickets for all concerts are available starting at noon on the day of every concert. Tickets are for assigned seats, and are distributed on a "first-come, first served" basis, two tickets per person, per concert. New York's historic Town Hall comfortably seats 1500 people, and is a great place to experience a live concert. Congratulations to Jennifer Higdon on her 2010 Pulitzer Prize in Music for her Violin Concerto. The citation from the Pulitzer committee cited Jennifer's work as "a deeply engaging piece that combines flowing lyricism with dazzling virtuosity". This work was commissioned by the Indianapolis Symphony (and premiered by them in February, 2009), Toronto Symphony, Baltimore Symphony and the Curtis Institute of Music.
